Who are you?
Bevintel is a worldwide company that offers the most accurate and efficient inventory control for bars and restaurants possible. We scan and weigh every bottle of liquor and beer, as well as the kegs. Then we match what is getting poured to exactly what is getting rung in which shows the owner to the hundredth of an ounce what his/her variances are for every product in their establishment. Using the reports, we offer recommendations on how to improve operational efficiencies in order to maximize profits.
Why Did you start your business?
After getting a Master's in Accounting in a struggling economy and running a restaurant, I recognized the potential and opportunity Bevintel provided. I knew, from years of experience in the hospitality industry that this was an industry problem and Bevintel provided the best solution possible. It also allowed me the opportunity to be my own boss and build a business for myself. After about a year of due diligence I quit my job, moved, and began building my business.
What makes your business unique?
We are a full service independent company that works closely with owners to build a program that helps maximize their profits. There are other "products" out there but nothing comes close to providing the value and immediate ROI that our company and our network of franchisees can offer.
What's the biggest mistake you've made with your business and what did you learn from it??
My biggest mistake was not doing it sooner!! Ok, I'm serious about that but on a more relevant note, I would say not hiring sooner and getting more organized about establishing a clear structure within my organization to allow maximum growth potential with minimum stress. As with any business you can only grow as fast as your client base and revenue allows, but that doesn't mean you can't have a clear and focused plan. One of my most influential people in my life (behind my family of course), Shelly Whalen, said it best, "If you want to be successful, you have to be there, on time, and ready to play!" As I have matured I will say that this could not be more true in many facets of life. Another one of my favorites is "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail!" Preparation is the key to success (in most cases, or at least in my experience). Try to be ahead of the curve. Know what your opponent (the market, your competition, your potential customers, etc) is going to do before they do it. Life is a game of chess, I don't know about you but nothing feels better than looking someone in the eye and saying checkmate. Might sound cheesy but its true!
what big goal do you have for your company and how do you plan to achieve it?
I would love to build our brand so everyone knows who we are and what value we provide. I want people to hear the name Bevintel in my market and immediately associate that with a company and service that helps its customers save thousands and thousands of $$$. I want them to know that we help save businesses and make businesses that aren't profitable, profitable. I also want them to know the level of care and dedication we put into each client we work with. I plan to achieve this by never closing my mind to any ideas that anyone in or outside of our organization has. In business, in an ever changing economy and market, you have to be malleable. You have to make changes and not be afraid to step out on a limb and take a calculated risk. Notice I said calculated. It all goes back to the preparation. "Be there, on time, and ready to play!"
what advice or tips do you have for people wanting to start their own business or follow their dreams?
Make sure to do your homework. I'm sure tons of people will say the opposite and say just go for it. I believe this is true in a sense but I also believe strongly in making sure that you know as much about your potential business as you can to make sure you have a plan and are prepared for the obstacles that will inevitably arise. Starting your own business can be the best thing you will ever do. It can also be the single decision that cripples you if not done with the proper steps and thought. Stay driven my friends!
