Who are you?

MEMOJI is an online marketplace & a journal that curates purposeful, aesthetic, and creative workspace tools. We commit to add values to passionate individuals who seek purpose, beauty, and creativity in their respective professions.

Why Did you start your business?

It was originally a side project that MEMOJI's mother company had. Later, the mother company span off MEMOJI as a separate business entity to further develop it. While it was a side project, MEMOJI's business model or the mission was not clear except that we are doing something in office supply industry. Later, MEMOJI's founding team have identified: a. a growing number of professionals who seek purpose & meaning in their work. (especially among younger generations) b. a growing demand for well-designed products. Therefore, we've decided to develop MEMOJI as a business that offer workspace products that are purposeful and aesthetically beautiful & useful.

What makes your business unique?

1. Our products are not just office supplies. We intentionally describe our products as "Workspace" products. "Workspace" can be office, outdoor, coffee shop, or kitchen (if you are a culinary artists). Therefore, we are different from regular office supply stores. 2. We describe ourselves not only as an online marketplace, but also as a journal. We are very intentional about generating quality posts on our Journal as much as offering well-designed products. Therefore, we are not just a marketplace but, also a online publication. (Definitely the emphasis will be on developing marketplace in the beginning). 3. We don't just source products from various brands. They are not just vendors, but partners. We not only sell their products, but also plan to share about who they are and how they approach creating their products. In that sense, we are a curator of brands.

What's the biggest mistake you've made with your business and what did you learn from it??

Since it's only our 4th month as a company, and today (4/10/14) is only Day 4 after the launch, we cannot say what has been our biggest mistake yet. Maybe the next one :) We just go through millions of small mistakes everyday and are learning.

what big goal do you have for your company and how do you plan to achieve it?

Big Goal (THE Mission): We hope to become/nurture a community of passionate professionals who help one another to be better. How? We think our business model will change/evolve continually. We are starting as a marketplace & a journal, but we may become a conference, consulting, or a co-working space business in the future. It will be critical for us to continually identify potential opportunities in our industry, and learn to pivot/expand/adapt a new business model. Our mission will remain similar, but our business model will evolve continually.

what advice or tips do you have for people wanting to start their own business or follow their dreams?

"Be on a mission." Ask yourself, "Why should we build this business? Are we more passionate about being a founder, or completing a mission?" Don't just be a founder, but be on a mission.
