Who are you?

ManMade designs and manufactures premium fit-driven, high-performance men's undershirts that are lightweight, fit great, feel luxurious, stay tucked, don't bunch up and have no seams, tags or collars that get in the way.

Why Did you start your business?

I wear undershirts all the time and I couldn't find one that met all of my needs. So I set out to craft a premium undershirt that addresses the fit and performance issues others on the market have not been able to resolve. This venture began as a side project and I still maintain a full-time job in addition to running ManMade.

What makes your business unique?

In addition to what we believe is the best fitting, most comfortable, and functional men's undershirt on the market, we have one unique feature that separates us from our competition. Manmade undershirts incorporate a patented notch at the bottom front center of the garment. This notch serves 3 purposes: 1) Maintains Tuck – The notch allows the shirt to open as it expands over the hips, which are wider than the waist. Naturally, the shirt wants to “ride up” to the narrowest part of the body, which is the waist. The notch virtually eliminates this “riding up” effect. 2) Reduces Bulk – Because the sides of the notch flare out to allow the shirt to lie over the hips, you are left with no fabric in the middle pelvic region. With zippers, buttons, belts, and underwear already crowding this region, this gives you one less layer of “stuff”. 3) Adds Convenience – When nature calls, the opening provided by the notch provides a welcome level of convenience.

What's the biggest mistake you've made with your business and what did you learn from it??

From a young age, I always thought that my fear of failure held me back from truly taking risks and "going for it" in my life. Through the process of starting a business, I realized that my fear of success was just as much of a barrier for me as my fear of failure. Through this process, I learned (and continue to learn) that as long as I continue to recognize and overcome my fears, I will have no regrets.

what big goal do you have for your company and how do you plan to achieve it?

To avoid feeling overwhelmed with big goals, I break the goal down into smaller manageable tasks and timelines which help me to recognize my progress, stay focused, and fight off self-doubt. I share my goals with others which makes me feel more accountable to complete my goals.

what advice or tips do you have for people wanting to start their own business or follow their dreams?

I used to have the naive view that most great products were developed by companies with brilliant people and big R&D budgets. I now know better. Most great products come from people just like you and me who had a need and had the courage to create a product to solve that need. "Why not me?" is the question that you should ask yourself when doubt creeps in. When the doubters and naysayers show up, smile and thank them for their input, then continue to follow your gut, stay true to yourself, and do things that make you happy.
