Why Did you start your business?

I began Indie Minded back in 2010 as a way to give back to the indie community for all of the help I received when launching my indie t-shirt brand, saucewear. It originally began as "Tee Gazette," and was reborn as "Indie Minded" when we expanded to include all things indie like music and film.

What makes your business unique?

At Indie Minded, we truly do our best to focus on getting the word out on new indie brands and music. We spotlight indie companies, musicians and films that might not get a second look on a larger website, and readers visit our page to find their newest favorite song or product. We've recently added the Indie Minded Radio Show to our resume, which allows the music we feature on the website to jump off the pages of the internet and into your living rooms or cars.

What's the biggest mistake you've made with your business and what did you learn from it??

Honestly, we've done nothing but grow since our launch. We don't spend any money on advertising, our site is mainly word of mouth. Spending time working hard to get content out and making sure it's relevant is something we strive for every day.

what big goal do you have for your company and how do you plan to achieve it?

We would love Indie Minded to grow to one of the biggest indie websites on the internet. Forging relationships with record companies, PR companies and also owners of indie companies is very important to us. We want to continue to be the most trusted indie site in the world!

what advice or tips do you have for people wanting to start their own business or follow their dreams?

Don't give up! That's so important. Many people begin to follow their dreams, but when the going gets tough... they throw in the towel. Running a successful business is NOT easy, you're going to face challenges, but you need to set realistic goals and put in the hard work to reach them. Engage with your clients or customers! They're the ones who will make you successful and everyone loves to feel as though they're more than just a number. Also.... stay relevant! Fads change like the wind, and though its important to stay true to yourself, you have to stay relevant and evolve. Best of luck to everyone reading this!
