Who are you?
Get Storied is a learning company devoted to transformational storytelling. We teach innovators and change-makers how to get their story straight.
Why Did you start your business?
I started this work in 2002, after the first wave of dot.com boom. In my first career as a social entrepreneur, I saw too many world-changing ideas fall on their butt, because they didn't tell the right story.
What makes your business unique?
We are one of the world's first and most established business storytelling companies. Not an advertising agency or marketing firm. A company with storytelling at the heart of its mission, teaching innovators and corporate marketers how to humanize their business.
What's the biggest mistake you've made with your business and what did you learn from it??
GIving my ex-wife equity in my last business before she earned or deserved it. Not to mention, my ignorance in not having a partnership agreement in place. I learned...you have to pay for your education.
what big goal do you have for your company and how do you plan to achieve it?
Our goal is to make storytelling a foundational element in the education of every leader, entrepreneur, change-maker, and marketer. We've launched Story University (StoryU) for short as a global platform for doing just that. Our curriculum will eventually be licensed for specific verticals like corporate training & development and academic educational settings.
what advice or tips do you have for people wanting to start their own business or follow their dreams?
The most under-discussed challenge to being an entrepreneur is -- mental sanity. In other words, take care of yourself. You will feel like you have the world on your shoulders, nobody understands what you're going through, and since you're on a bold mission, that you can sacrifice your health, relationships, or well-being. Those are lies. If you are on a path of freedom, make sure you build that into your life on a daily basis. Can be as simple as what you eat, how you sleep, what you do to move your body, and surrounding yourself with relationships that nurture you.
