CK Golf Solutions provides business, management, strategic planning and marketing solutions to the golf industry for better bottom line results. We use golf industry best practices to assist our clients in achieving improved results.
Why Did you start your business?
We started our company after 15 years of managing day to day operations for some fantastic golf courses. However we saw a niche opportunity for best practice solutions that solve problems many golf course operators we having. It was a bit of a leap to start our company from scratch but here we are 7 years later!
What makes your business unique?
We get asked this quite bit and I think our uniqueness is that we focus 90% of our energy on golf operations and the business of golf. We are completely hands on with our clients. There are not a lot of other boutique companies out there doing what we do.
What's the biggest mistake you've made with your business and what did you learn from it??
A while back we had a client who did not fit with our core values but we took the job anyway. After a while it appeared they wanted to move in a direction that we didn't feel was the right one for them, or for us and we ultimately had to part ways. While it is difficult to lose out on some work sometimes you have to be prepared to walk away, we did and felt great about the decision afterwards.
what big goal do you have for your company and how do you plan to achieve it?
We are realizing that a lot of the one to one work we are doing with golf course operators requires a lot of time (there are only two of us). We are looking to launch some products that operators could purchase to help them at a much lower cost than us physically having to work with them on that one to one basis. Sort of a how-to on a variety of golf industry topics.
what advice or tips do you have for people wanting to start their own business or follow their dreams?
Write a business plan for yourself. So many small business owners don't take the time to do this and we see it all time that their business or idea lacks direction. You need a road map of where you want to go, how you are going to get there and the steps you are going to take to ensure you meet your goal. You also need to review this plan at least annually and update it as you and your business change. A business plan is not a static document. One other thing we have come to realize is, that no matter what your business is, you need to understand that we are all in sales!
