Who are you?
Beauty & Brains LLC is an SEO and online marketing company that helps bloggers, media and small business to grow traffic & revenue on their websites.
Why Did you start your business?
Beauty & Brains started after years of freelancing & working in several marketing & advertising positions. I was receiving so many referrals and requests from small businesses to help them understand online marketing, I quit my day job to start the company.
What makes your business unique?
Online marketing & SEO businesses are a dime a dozen these days. We're much more than just an SEO company who manages search engine optimization plans and social media marketing plans. We show bloggers, media companies and small businesses how to manage their online marketing and help them to put systems in place to eventually do it on their own.
What's the biggest mistake you've made with your business and what did you learn from it??
Using the "take-any-client-with-a-pulse approach" was probably the worst mistake I made in the very beginning. Because I was using this approach, business was coming in too heavily. I was having to work 13 to 14 hour days, every single day. I had all the wrong kind of clients paying very little and they were all over the place in terms of industry. I was doing a lot of work, but seeing little to no return. I learned to be selective with what clients I brought on board, what clients to fire, and to narrow my focus to a smaller industry niche.
It's still a process and I'm still working on saying "no."
what big goal do you have for your company and how do you plan to achieve it?
Our next big goal is actually office space. We'll be reevaluating our potential for growth to determine how much space we'll need. We'd also like to offer a learning & training center not just for our employees, but also for the growing online marketing community. We'll be identifying guest speakers, industry best practices, and general 'how-to's' for people wanting to learn more about marketing online.
what advice or tips do you have for people wanting to start their own business or follow their dreams?
Just do it. I waited several years before I finally had the courage to step out on my own. You can only plan so much. Get paid for what you love and what you're good at. My only regret is I didn't do it sooner.
